Currently on the islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the level of restrictions for Covid prevention is at the lowest level since the pandemic began in 2020.

Masks are mandatory in public transport, pharmacies, health centers and for people with Covid.

The capacity is free again, and for practical purposes the feeling is of freedom equal to that of before the pandemic.

The terraces of the premises have remained with the prohibition of smoking, although it is easy to see people smoking as in other places where it is also prohibited.

Workers who test positive for covid only receive sick leave if their symptoms are serious, so if they do not, they must continue to go to work with the obligation to wear a mask.

The Easter holiday period is approaching with the risk of contagion still active. The authorities try to open up to tourism by establishing rules that residents and tourists must comply with. These rules are regulated according to the risk level from 1 to 5. Depending on the situation of health statistics, the level is changed, or even the rules of each level may change, so it is necessary to be updated with the latest news. Mallorca is currently at level 2, and in summary, its main restrictions are the following:

  • Night curfew from 10pm to 6am
  • Social gatherings of maximum 6 people
  • Non-essential shops close at 8pm
  • Restaurants close at 5pm

Mask in the Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera

From now on, the use of masks will be mandatory in all public places in the Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

From now on, the use of masks will be mandatory in all public places in the Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera.

Its use was already mandatory in closed places or where the safety distance could not be maintained. This law is imposed in the face of what could be a health disaster, a massive outbreak of coronavirus with the islands full of tourists.

The Balearic health system was able to control the 2,228 cases and 224 deaths with covid-19 that had occurred since March. Although the cases now appear to be milder, professionals still cannot fully explain the behavior of the virus. It is intuited that the least time in closed spaces can be a brake. The issue of temperatures is still uncertain, seeing data like those of Brazil.

The truth is that the numbers of positives have increased again in these weeks, and several outbreaks have been detected, including a family of tourists in Menorca to whom the health system has provided accommodation to spend preventive confinement before letting them go. .

Faced with this situation, and with the risk that human pressure increases exponentially with the increase in daily flights and tourists, 1,553 flights last weekend at Balearic airports, the autonomous government has decided to act.

It will be allowed to go without a mask in the following cases:

  • On the beach keeping distances without crowds.
  • Driving in the car if the occupants live together.
  • Playing sports outdoors.
  • In a restaurant the moment the lunch or drinks arrive.

Its use will be compulsory on all roads and public places such as:

  • Stores, supermarkets, administration (in these it was already mandatory)
  • Strolling through streets or parks
  • In restaurants to enter, exit, go to the bathroom and be at the table until drinks or food arrive.

The new measure does not represent a big change from the previous situation. Every person should already have a mask to make purchases or procedures in offices. It should also be used when the safety distance could not be met. By extending the obligation, and sanctioning its breach, it is expected to eliminate risk situations experienced in these weeks of new normality.

Fines range from € 100 for individuals to € 600,000 for serious misconduct at premises, illegal parties, or recidivism. These sanctions will only be imposed by the agents of the different local police, in no case by the Civil Guard or the national police.

Cleaning and disinfection protocol Covid-19 Holiday Homes

Hygiene in a holiday home: it has always been the top priority for owners and guests. But in COVID-19 times, hygiene in vacation accommodation is even more important so that infections don’t spread any further.

The virus can survive for several hours or even days on some surfaces. This allows COVID-19 infection if people touch a contaminated surface and then touch their mouth, nose, or eyes. That is why it is important to thoroughly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces; This is especially true among holiday guest stays.

You or your cleaning staff can use the following general Sanitation recommendations, even if there is not yet a standardized protocol for cleaning objects and surfaces in your vacation apartment. It is also recommended that you follow local epidemic control guidelines and recommendations.

Recommendations for the hygiene and cleanliness of your apartment.

Ventilate before cleaning. Open all the windows of your vacation home at least 20 minutes before cleaning and let in fresh air. If possible, leave the windows open throughout the cleaning process.
Wash your hands. Wash your hands before and after cleaning with soap and water for about 20-30 seconds. If this is not possible, you can also use a hand sanitizer. However, this should be listed by VAH (Association for Applied Hygiene e.V.) and have an alcohol content of at least 60%.
Wear waterproof disposable gloves. After cleaning, remove gloves so there is no contamination from your hands. After removing gloves, they should be discarded. Also, hands should be washed thoroughly immediately afterward.
Make sure you have a supply of: disposable gloves, paper towels, disinfectant wipes, and other disposable cleaning agents.

Recommendations for cleaning with reusable products.

Change cleaning cloths frequently and wash at least 60 degrees.
Hang the cleaning cloths with air. Bacteria multiply particularly well in a humid environment. That is why you should let the cleaning cloths, mops and other cleaning utensils dry quickly.
Use different wipes. Use different cleaning cloths for the kitchen, bathroom and other areas so that the pathogen does not spread on the surfaces.
Clean first, then disinfect
Disinfection uses chemicals like bleach or alcohol to kill germs. However, disinfection is not a substitute for cleaning. Therefore, dirt, impurities and germs must be removed first with soap or detergent and water. Only then does disinfection make sense. When disinfecting, be sure to pay attention to the recommended exposure time, which is necessary to kill or inactivate at least 99.9% of viruses, fungi or bacteria.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces. Objects and surfaces that holiday guests often touch include: door knobs, light switches, appliances and kitchen dishes, fixtures, shower curtains, laundry baskets, remote controls, tables, chairs, railings, handles wardrobes, hangers, bedside tables …
Wash hands and bath towels, bedding and underwear, mattress covers, etc. at a minimum of 60 degrees. If possible, use a strong detergent that contains bleach. No additional sanitary rinse is necessary. Once a week, the machine should run with a hot wash at least 60 ° C so that biofilm with microorganisms does not form in the washing machine.
Clean cutlery, dishes and kitchen utensils in the dishwasher at least 60 ° C or with lukewarm water and plenty of detergent. Also regularly clean dish brushes in the dishwasher and replace after each guest’s stay on vacation. For hygiene reasons, you should not use kitchen sponges, as they are a playground for all kinds of germs.
Disinfect cleaning devices such as washers, dryers, or dishwashers. Also disinfect the vacuum cleaner and empty it after each cleaning.
